Capturing one's natural essence while celebrating life's events

Kendric E.

In a simple but true way, growing up is about learning to handle your business. As we adults watch children grow, we wish for them to learn to take care of themselves and others; we wish for their skills and interests to rise up in such a way that in handling their business, they can turn their hopes, plans and dreams into realities. Kendric is on that journey of growth. First, graduating high school was a goal made even more difficult with the pandemic and virtual learning that could sometimes feel like a never ending work pile on, but Kendric persisted. As he says he would tell his younger self, Kendric worked to “keep going, don’t give up, and do anything you can to stay focused.”

Kendric persisted and not only graduated but applied to colleges, was accepted and made the decision to go. During this time, when surviving the pandemic and graduating and getting accepted to college would already bean abundance, Kendrick was also inducted into the National Honor Society – a prestigious international society that selects students based on the criteria of scholarship, leadership, service and character.

While everyone can and does and should still daydream, as we move from childhood wishes to our senior year in high school, we hope to catalyze more of those dreams into action. To do that, we need the lessons and the mental, physical and spiritual fortitude that strengthens us with every experience. Kendrick also worked and waited for four years before finally realizing his wish of being baptized. Working towards and achieving that most personal and spiritual goal, in a time of such personal and national upheaval, is a testimony to Kendric.

Kendric says if he had to describe his life he would say, “weird, funny, bright and simple.” We hope and trust that with his persistence, and his spiritual and community grounding, Kendric will continue to turn his dreams into plans and make his way in the world.
